Electrical testing of control units

For the verification of the ECU functions, it is primarily important to present the ECU an environment that comes as close as possible to the environment in the real vehicle. By operating the sensors connected to the control unit, the functions to be tested are activated and the control unit reactions are evaluated.

A suitable ECU environment can be produced very differently. It is important that the control unit can not perceive a difference between what’s real and simulated by the test system environment. The effort actually made depends on the test objectives.

Usual standards for performing electrical tests on control units are:

  • VW80000 / LV124
  • LV148
  • ISO 7637
  • DIN 40839
  • ISO 16750
  • GS 95024
  • MBM LV124

Electrical tests of ECUs according to LV 124

The LV 124 is one of the most important standards for manufacturers of electronic vehicle assemblies (e.g., radios, daytime running lights). The tests described in the specification are part of ECU requirements. The challenge of such a test is the complex simulation of electrical systems, the monitoring of the inputs and outputs of the DUTs, the simulation of fieldbuses such as FlexRay, LIN or CAN as well as a corresponding analysis and evaluation.

All e-tests belonging to standard LV 124 can be individually selected and added to a desired test procedure. Thus, a completely customer-configurable and customizable test procedure is possible:

E-01 Long-term overvoltage

E-02 Transient overvoltage

E-03 Transient undervoltage

E-04 Jump start

E-05 Load dump

E-06 Superimposed alternating voltage

E-07 Slow decrease / increase of the supply voltage

E-08 Slow decrease / quick increase of the supply voltage

E-09 Reset behaviour

E-10 Short interruptions

E-11 Start pulses

E-12 Voltage curve with electric system control

E-13 Pin interruption

E-14 Connector interruption

E-15 Reverse polarity

E-16 Ground offset
